Health and Welfare Benefits
The following benefits are provided at no cost to you if enrolling in the extended healthcare and dental plans (or if you have comparable health and/or dental under a spouse/parent, you are able to elect just these benefits):

Benefit Amount
Employee Basic Life Insurance*
  • 1x Annual Earnings, up to $300,000
  • Amount reduces by 50% at age 65
Spouse Dependent Life Insurance $10,000
Child Dependent Life Insurance $5,000 per child
Employee AD&D 1x Annual Earnings, up to $300,000
Short-Term Disability 75% of weekly earnings, up to $1,500 per week
Waiting period: 1st day accident and 7th day illness
Benefit period: 17 weeks
Employee Assistance Program In-person, telephone or internet counselling sessions, Legal assessment and information, Financial planning, Nutrition information, Wellness library, smoking cessation, online stress management and more

*Life Insurance coverage amounts over $175,000 are subject to Sun Life’s approval of a Health Statement (Right Click and “Save Link As”)

Extended Health Care, Prescription Drug and Dental † You pay a portion of the cost of coverage and a portion of the cost when you use your benefits i.e., subject to coinsurance levels and maximums
Optional Employee Life* Units of $10,000, up to a maximum of $250,000*
Optional Spouse Life* Units of $10,000, up to a maximum of $250,000*
Long-Term Disability*^ 66 2/3% of the first $3,000 of monthly pre-disability earnings plus 45% of next $2,500 non-taxable.
You are automatically enroled up to $9,000 but additional coverage up to $15,000 is subject to EOI.
Waiting period: 17 weeks

Employees must enrol in benefits within 45 days of their hire date. Coverage begins on your 60th day of employment. Late enrolments are subject to the following: completing a Health Statement form, change to your benefit eligibility date, and reduction of dental benefits.
